Multiplying By 625:

   A.  Multiplying by 625 is derived from Multiplying by 125.  Since 625 = 1000 x (5/8) you can divide by 8, multiply by 5 (see section I for an easy way of doing this), and multiply by 1000.

Ex [1]  64 x 625 =_________.

a)      64 ÷ 8 = 8.

b)      8 x 5 = 40.

c)      40 x 1000 = 40000.

d)  The answer is 40000.

Ex [2]  625 x 816 =_________.

a)      816 ÷ 8 = 102.

b)      102 x 5 = 510.

c)      5100 x 1000 = 510000.

d)      The answer is 510000.
