Forming Committees From A Group Of People:

A.  When dealing with committees, we will always be using combinations

1.  The reason we are always using combinations is because a committee is composed of people, and it is the same committee even if you change the order of the people chosen.  So order does matter.

Ex [1]  How many 3-member committees can be formed from a group of 6 people?

a.  The answer is C(6,3) = 20.

Ex [2]  How many 2-member committees can be formed from a group of 10 people?

a.  The answer is C(10,2) = 45.
